Qualifying race for the Gravel World Cup comes to Aachen

Premiere in Aachen: 3RIDES organizes Trek UCI Gravel World Series competition on May 13, 2023

Aachen, December 22, 2022. 3RIDES, the most diverse cycling event in Europe, sets the stage in 2023 for the first German qualifying race for the official Trek UCI Gravel World Championship. Anyone who is interested can join us!

On May 13, participants will compete on a challenging, technically demanding lap of just under 19.5 kilometers. Depending on the age group, the riders must complete four or seven laps of this course; a license is not required. The round starts at the world-famous CHIO grounds in Aachen, where cycling, e-sports and culture will attract a diverse audience for three days.

"We are happy to have this sport-relevant race in our program already in the second year of our existence," says Björn Müller, Managing Director of 3RIDES GmbH, organizer of the three-day event. Müller adds, "The Gravel race represents the competitive highlight and will attract many spectators to the course in the cycling-loving tri-state area."

Only German of 18 races in the series

The Gravel race at 3RIDES is part of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series, where cyclists qualify for the official Gravel World Championships in Veneto, northern Italy (October 7-8, 2023). The top three finishers in all race classifications and the top 25 percent of all age groups in each of the 18 official races on four continents in the Trek UCI Gravel World Series earn the right to compete in the finals, where the coveted rainbow jerseys of the cycling world governing body are at stake. At the World Championships premiere in the fall of 2022, star athletes Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (France) and Gianni Vermeersch (Belgium) secured the elite gold medals.

Paul Voß has participation "firmly in mind

German gravel star Paul Voß, a three-time Tour de France finisher on the road, has already taken a look at the competition in Aachen. He has a May launch "firmly in mind," Voß says in the interview. "I'm excited because this race promises the typical feel of the Belgian-Dutch spring classics, only on a gravel bike. I'm a fan of each race finding its own identity," says Voß, who celebrated a solo victory at the new Red Bull Rio Grande Gravel in Texas this year. Voß is a big fan of the community idea, as it is also cultivated at 3RIDES. "Events need to offer more than just competition," he says. "In the really successful races, unlicensed starters race with the best gravel pros in the same race."

Three days event in May

The 3RIDES event will run from May 12 to 14 at the CHIO grounds in Aachen and will feature a large cycling and adventure exhibition as well as a program focus on e-sports. Interested people get information about new bikes and everyday mobility. Music and art are just as much a part of the three-day program as racing bike marathons, which open up the scenic and sporty surroundings of Aachen's World Heritage Site to participants.
